Why does handwriting help emotional issues?

We spend so much of our day thinking the same thoughts. It is said we have 50-80 thousand thoughts per day and 85% of this are the same ones! Repetitive thinking is a normal part of our every day. And yet, it is wholly unhelpful to your wellbeing. The negative thought cycle is trashing our constructive thought patterns. We cannot think our negative thoughts away, they must be processed.

Handwriting engages a broader network of brain regions, including those involved in memory, sensory processing, and emotional regulation, making it ideal for processing emotional issues. This deeper engagement allows for slower, more deliberate thought organisation, helping you develop a coherent narrative that can lead to better emotional understanding and regulation.

In contrast, repetitive thinking often leads to rumination, trapping you in a cycle without resolution, while typing is more mechanical and less engaging for these deeper cognitive and emotional processes.
